Weight loss goals may seem impossible because they are so far out of reach. Over time we tend to lose interest and the momentum that we had when we started. How is it that some people don't have this problem? Many people succeed at losing weight and stay thin long after. What is the secret to their success?
Clearly delineate your objectives when you formulate your fitness regimen. Do you want to drop a large amount of weight, or are you just looking to slim down? Are you hoping to gain energy by exercising regularly? What do you hope to accomplish by beginning an exercise program?
Keep track of your progress on a weekly basis. Keep a regular journal that has records of your weight, preferably measured by the week. Keep a food log in the journal of everything you consume each day. When you write down everything you consume, you will be much more aware of what you are eating, causing you to make better choices.
When you are very hungry, you tend to make unhealthy food decisions. Avoid making poor food choices by always have a collection of healthful snacks packed and ready whenever you are out. It's a lot better to bring your lunch to work or school, than to eat in a restaurant or the cafeteria. When you bring your lunch, you have complete control over your calorie consumption. Additionally, you will avoid the temptations you might face in a restaurant. When you pack snacks or lunch, you protect both your wallet and your waistline.
The secret to successful, lasting weight loss is a combination of nutritious eating habits coupled with a good exercise program. You must exercise a minimum of three days each week, but more is even better! If this has been where you have failed in the past, plan instead to incorporate exercise into things you already enjoy. Ask your friends to walk with you. Enjoy your workout in nature if you can. Hiking trails and bike paths offer some great outdoor space for working out by walking, biking, inline skating or even skateboarding. Try going to a dance class to learn new ways to work out.
Get rid of all the unhealthy food from your kitchen. You can't give into temptation if rich, fatty foods aren't available. Stock your kitchen full of healthy foods you love. The more difficult it is for you to eat junk food, the less likely you are to eat it.
Ask your friends to give you support. While you are the one in charge of your weight loss, having a support system will help you to stay motivated. Be sure to have a good circle of supportive friends to call on when you are down and discouraged. These people are able to help you through your weight loss journey.
