Sure everybody knows that babies are cute and snuggly. Even when they wear funny looking outfits they're adorable. There are so many things babies can wear that adults would be mocked mercilessly for wearing. Most people think that there isn't much to being a baby. You might be surprised to learn that most people think that babies are already mostly adult except for a few developmental flaws like an inability to speak and a lack of teeth. The truth is that babies are complex little creatures with their own sets of needs and abilities. Here are some baby facts that should be interesting for you to learn.
Usually, by the time a woman realizes that she has missed her period; her fetus's heart is already working. The heart forms and begins beating around three weeks after conception takes place. Many women do not learn that they are pregnant until right around this time. If you ever wanted an excuse to be fascinated by babies the fact that it only takes three weeks to build a beating heart would probably do the trick! Think about the heart you have as an adult; isn't it amazing that it could be created so quickly?
In spite of taking a few months to start forming words that adults can identify, the range of sounds babies can make is amazing. It takes a while for an infant's voice box to finish forming, which is why it can make so many amazing sounds so soon! Adult voice boxes have already begun to stiffen up, which is why babies are better at creating new sounds. Babies quickly start to assign the sounds they make to the things that they want or need. This is how a baby's mother can usually figure out what her child wants just by listening to the sounds her baby is making. Did you know that the first words a baby says are almost always simple vowels separated by consonants he can make with the front of his mouth? In a baby's vocabulary "mama" usually comes after "dada" because it is harder for babies to learn how to make the "m" sound.
Everybody knows that babies use crying to communicate their need for service or attention but did you know that the baby does not cry real tears until he or she is almost a month old? Tears are made up of water and hormones that are excreted when a person is under stress. This is one of the reasons people cry when they are stressed-the tears release the hormones which calms the body down. This hormone does not get created until after a baby has been born. Sometimes real tears take a few weeks to show up because it takes the baby a while to begin producing the stress hormone. Still other babies can take up to a few months to show signs of actual tears (remember, every baby is different).
There are lots of things about babies that most people do not know. The development of infants is fascinating. The more you know about the subject the more you will enjoy watching your children grow up!
