Identifying Your Menopause Symptoms

There are so many different menopause symptoms and they are so varied that learning to identify every single one of them is quite difficult. Still, there are some symptoms of menopause that are more common than others. Being able to identify at least the most common symptoms of menopause is something everyone should be able to do. If you are a woman, then being able to identify the symptoms of menopause will better prepare you for the change when it starts for you. If you are male then learning about the symptoms will help you be a lot more sympathetic when the women in your life start displaying the symptoms and going through the changes. The following are some of the biggest symptoms of menopause.

Many women experience an increase in weight gain when they start to go through menopause. Unlike typical weight gain menopause weight gain happens in specific places. It is the thighs and the waist that see the largest weight gain when a woman goes through menopause. This usually causes the woman's waistline to disappear. Most women dread gaining weight. When it happens in this area, however, it can be especially traumatic. If you find that you are gaining weight in these places when you usually don't gain weight there you might think about calling your doctor. You might be going through menopause.

Losing the ability to sleep through the night is one of the troubling symptoms that menopausal women experience. If you're of a certain age and have suddenly lost the ability to fall asleep or stay asleep it is possible that you are going through menopause. Often this inability to sleep is paired with night sweats and hot flashes. Sometimes it is not. Many times this symptom gets overlooked as nothing more than trouble sleeping. It is a good idea to have your doctor check out this symptom, especially if you are of a certain age.

A stopping to your period is the most absolutely obvious sign that you are going through menopause. If your period suddenly stops or changes in any way you might be going through menopause. Don't forget that the absence of your menstrual cycle is not always the signal for menopause. Believe it or not, there are some women who say that they have heavier periods right before they go into menopause. Any change in your monthly period should be told to your doctor, especially if you are getting to that certain age. Women do not have an easy time when she goes through menopause. They have little control over their bodies and minds during this time and it is important that the people who are around them understand that, if it were up to the women, they wouldn't be going through this change. Sure a woman might rejoice over no longer having to go through a monthly "cycle" but in many other instances, menopause can be quite traumatic. Being able to recognize menopausal symptoms will help you be more prepared to help the women you know get through their "change of life."
