Many people think that Japanese is a very complicated language. Japanese is not easy for Westerners; its many nuances and unique rules are unfamiliar to most people. It takes some time, but you will one day be able to appreciate the unusual and beautiful sounds of Japanese. Of course, you might think that it is too hard to learn Japanese. What you have to realize is that everyone has the ability to learn several languages! You just have to be willing to work hard and put in the time. Just make up your mind that you will become fluent in Japanese, and you can make it a reality. If you read and apply some of these tricks, you can make your Japanese study a little simpler.
If you are serious about learning Japanese, you should find a way to immerse yourself in it. Travel to Japan if you possibly can; explore the country without anyone's help. Any study you've done will come in handy, and you may get by better than you think. Traveling to a country where the new language is spoken is the most effective way for most people to learn the language quickly. It forces them to leave their native language behind and truly open themselves up to new forms of communication. Not everyone can simply go to Japan; if you can't do that right now, look for an area in your city where Japanese is commonly spoken. If you do not have this, try spending a few weeks watching only Japanese television shows and movies (and leave the subtitles off) If you want to learn a lot of vocabulary, this is a good method to use.
Start small. Don't over complicate the process; start off with something simple like learning vocabulary. No matter what language you attempt to learn you will find multiple words that all say the same thing. Some of the words are uncommon ways of speaking so you would want to identify one or two of the most common ways to say something. It can be tempting to learn word after word but as with any language, there are meanings that words convey that may not be obvious to a beginner. Being able to recognize the small differences in the meanings of word is very important to being able to communicate effectively and the difference between being considered a beginner and an actual speaker of the language by native speakers.
One trick you can use to speed up your learning process is to use any Japanese recordings or downloads at times when you are not focusing on learning. It's great to listen and study while you are consciously trying to learn, of course. But you can also learn by using the subconscious mind. Try this, and just play your Japanese programs while you are busy around the house, driving or doing anything else. Every time the vocabulary and phrases are repeated, a part of your mind is taking this in and remembering it. This is the way your mind works; a lot of what it takes in is automatic, so why not use this to your advantage? You might even try playing the lessons while you sleep!
Once you put your mind to it, you will see that you can learn Japanese in many different ways. If you try some of the techniques covered here, you will find your pursuit of Japanese a little simpler and perhaps more enjoyable as well. No one would claim that learning Japanese is easy or something you can do overnight. Learning Japanese can also be very rewarding if you stick with it, and if you follow some of these tips you should have an easier time of it.
