You're watching skateboarders and think, "That's looks so easy, dude." Just looks like you push-off and then find your balance. But surfing looks easy, too. Just stand up on a wave! But if you try it, you'll immediately discover skateboarding only "looks" easy. You'll need to bring your skill and practice if you ever hope to do the tricks you've watched others do. Read on to learn some excellent tips that will help accelerate your learning.
It'll take a bit of practice to discover the best foot in front and back. Ok, first - it really makes no difference here if you're right/left handed. But it is important to know which is your dominant or stronger leg. So try and visualize how you go about approaching things. Which foot do you naturally use when you kick a ball? What foot do you take that first step up the stairs with? If you begin to lose balance, which leg do you use to save your balance with? The foot you use for all of these things will almost always be the foot that you keep on the back part of the board. How you stand has less to do with which way you want to face as you move on the board and more to do with which leg is stronger and sturdier. Face your fear. You'll see many beginner skateboarders who are too afraid to try much. They quickly see there's not much to save them from getting hurt while they're skateboarding. You just gotta come to terms with this thought if you ever want to be a good skater. If you never get over the fear you won't ever be able to do much on a skateboard except sit still and watch others do tricks. You'll only get over this fear by practicing as much as possible. When you practice you'll find yourself getting more comfortable and willing to try. There are better ways to fall than others, when at all possible. The more and more you deal with these aspects of skating, the quicker and better you'll get.
You'll need to learn the skaters lingo, and it's good to find out the different kinds of skateboards used. Lots of different boards available, and they're not all the same, either. You'll want to find out why there are so many different designs. Know what other boarders are talking about when they use certain words. That way you can get help about something if you ever need it.
There's a lot more to skateboarding than riding a board for a short distance. Skateboards are a valid way to travel short distances like going to work in the cities, and they're really fun to ride. Have an open mind to learning, and that will be the trick that will make you better.
