Tips For Couples Who Want To Have A Daughter.

While all babies are a blessing, some parents wish to get pregnant with a daughter This might be for a range of reasons: they might want to have at least one child of each sex, they may wish to avoid passing on an inheritable disease or they might just want a little girl But while some parents get the assortment of daughters or sons that they want, some parents simply have to stop trying for a daughter because few of us can afford to keep adding children to our families indefinitely in the hope that we will eventually get it right.

However, many fertility experts believe that it is possible to boost the chances of conceiving a girl by using some simple, low-cost, non-invasive processes. These include consuming a specific diet, carefully scheduling at what time couples make an effort to get pregnant and the sexual positions that are used when they do try. By doing these things, people can dramatically improve their likelihood of having a little girl.

The Shettles Method
Much of the information in this article draws on the research of Dr Landrum B. Shettles, one of the true pioneers of medically assisted reproduction. Dr shettles theories about gender selection are known as the ‘Shettles Method’. Dr Shettle’s research has been the foundation upon which many other writers and scientists have built to describe how it is possible for dads and moms to dramatically improve the chances of selecting a child’s gender.

Dr Shettles work was based on his research which showed that that male (y chromosome) sperm and female (x chromosome) sperm differ in certain ways. Put simply, male sperm are faster but less robust than female sperm. By recognizing these differences, Shettles discovered that it would be possible to influence the sex of a baby at the time of conception, allowing people to choose the gender of their child.

Diet
A woman's body alters as she goes through her monthly cycle, with the level of acidity or pH balance rising and falling over time. The higher the pH, the less hospitable her body is to male sperm, who do not cope as well with higher pH than female sperm. Diet can be used to control pH levels, so if a woman wants to conceive a little girl, she should consume foods which will boost the pH levels within her body. These include leafy green vegetables, fish, broccoli, grapefruit, oranges, apples, lemons and dairy products. A diet relatively high in magnesium and calcium and relatively low in sodium and potassium is also recommended.

Timing
Given the way in which the pH balance in a woman’s body changes throughout her cycle, the when sexual intercourse occurs in relation to a woman’s ovulation might also have a bearing on a baby’s gender. Using the Shettles Method, if a woman wishes to get pregnant with a daughter, she should have sexual intercourse 2-4 days before she is due to ovulate and then not have sex for 2-3 days after the time of ovulation.

As the sperm have to wait for the egg to arrive, the male sperm are more likely to perish than the female sperm, increasing the probability that a female sperm will reach the egg first. Another important factor is that before ovulation, the environment in the vagina is more acidic which means that it is a more difficult environment for the relatively less tough male sperm to survive in.

Sexual Positions
The sexual positions used when trying to become pregnant are also understood to influence whether or not you become pregnant with a little girl or a baby boy. Shettles stated that because male sperm are quicker than female sperm, under the right circumstances they are believed to have a better chance of reaching the egg first. To help the female sperm, Shettles recommended that if you want to have a little girl you should use sexual positions which allow shallow penetration. This raises the distance that the sperm need to travel. If the environment is has a relatively high acid level, the hardier female sperm will have a better chance of surviving over the greater distance as they are better able to tolerate the elevated pH than the male sperm.
