Gardening Hints for New Gardeners

Anybody can learn how to grow a garden. Even if you've never before grown your own garden, if you put in some time and effort, you too can figure out how to grow wonderful gardens. A lot of people have a hard time with gardening and because they haven't successfully grown full gardens, they assume that they have "black thumbs." The truth about gardening is that it is a lot of work; not everyone realizes this. Most new gardeners fail because they assume that all plants are alike when the truth is that every plant has its own special needs. Keep reading to find some useful gardening tips to help you as you grow your garden.

Start small. If this is the first time you've grown a garden begin with one plant (or just a couple of one type of plant) and a small plot of soil. This will help you learn how to tend the ground as well as the plant you are trying to grow. Don't try to take on a large or complicated garden until you have successfully grown and raised your first plant. Lots of beginner gardeners think that they can grow more than they can and this leads them to planting too much and attempting to do too much to soon-this, then, leads to disappointment when they don't have a lush garden within a month's time. Gardening is best learned in baby steps: start small and work your way up! Have someone teach you how to tell the difference between the plants you have planted and the weeds that will spring up. Many newbie gardeners think that their garden plants will look a lot different than the weeds that will also grow. The truth is that sometimes the two look nearly identical. This means that you could inadvertently yank up half of your garden without realizing it. Learn how to tell the flowers apart from the weeds. Doing this will save you from a great deal of dismay later.

Instead of using pesticides, use aphids. Using pesticides could do a lot of damage to your plants (not to mention how bad they are for the environment). They are particularly awful for the health of those people who are growing edible items in their gardens. Use ladybugs in your garden instead of pesticides-they are great for keeping your garden free of plant consuming pests. Using ladybugs is a good idea because they don't eat plants, they eat the pests who eat your plants. Pest control bugs like ladybugs are great for gardens. They are better for the environment. You won't accidentally ingest them. And they keep your garden pest free!

Many people think that gardening is complicated. If you don't know what you are doing it could be easy to become intimidated or talk yourself out of starting your first garden. You'll be happy to know that all you need is a good gardening mentor (or a few articles to act as a mentor) and growing your first garden won't seem so hard anymore. In fact, if you put in enough effort, you could have a thriving garden before you know what has happened!
