Caring for your new baby's skin can seem overwhelming when you are a new parent. As a new parent it is easy to become overwhelmed with trying to be perfect. Baby skin care is often little more than common sense which should be good news. You don't need any fancy products to keep your baby's skin clean and clear. The fact is that you don't need to buy a large number of products to keep your baby's skin clean and clear. If you want to learn how to develop a skin care routine for your new baby, keep reading!

A baby's skin is sensitive, so precautions must be made to protect against rashes and other skin conditions. There is no need to lose control when you see a rash develop, usually its something minor. Treating these types of ailments is something that can be done at home with the correct methods. By attending to any type of issue with the skin as soon as possible, you will greatly reduce any blemishing or skin damage that would have results otherwise.

Make sure to test the temperature of the baby's bath water before you let that water touch your baby. Baby skin is easily burned by warm water! In fact, it isn't until our later years that we even begin to enjoy hot baths or long hot showers. Your elbow is the best tool to use for testing bathwater. Your elbow has very sensitive skin so if the water is too hot or cold for your elbow you need to adjust the temperature of the water. Your baby's bath water should, at most, be lukewarm.

Lukewarm is a good compromise in temperature because it will keep you from accidentally burning (or freezing) your baby.

Acne is a skin problem that many people don't know can inflict their baby. The cause of the acne stems back to the pregnancy when the hormones of the mother is setting the stage for later acne production. These hormones trigger some baby's skin to become oily and the result is clogged pores which lead to acne. Never use adult acne treatments on a baby! This can lead to endangering your child's health. The treatment for this is to stick to a normal bathing routine and the acne can be expected to fade away once the clogs diminished and the healing process begins.

There are all sorts of ways to practice proper baby skin care. You need to remember that practicing proper baby skin care involves more than a plain bath. Proper baby skin care involves things like finding the right laundry soap, using the best sunscreen and letting the baby spend some time naked every day. Don't worry too much--eventually protecting and caring for your baby's skin will be second nature. It really will feel like a habit before too long!
