Pretty much every adult has at least one moment of "I would really like to have my own garden!" One man might think to himself "I'd like to grow my own vegetables!" Perhaps someone dreams of creating a lush rose garden. It doesn't matter what you want to grow or why you want to grow it; the important thing is finding the right tools to help you grow your garden. Most gardening can be done with your bare hands and brute strength. With the right gardening tools you can save yourself quite a bit of time as well as prevent basic wear and tear on your body. Here are a few gardening tools that will help you complete your project.
No matter what "level" of gardener you are, you are going to want to have some good gardening gloves. Your gardening gloves will protect your hands while you work in your garden. Gloves protect your hands as you dig in the dirt-something that most gardeners find uniquely satisfying. For example, when you are pruning rosebushes or other plants with thorns, you will want to wear gloves to protect yourself against scratches and being stuck.
Gloves also provide protection for your hands when you work with substances that will leave residue behind like fertilizer and compost. Gloves can also protect your hands against bugs you might encounter on your plants or in the dirt.
Every gardener will be able to find use for a pitchfork-even if the garden plot is very small! Pitchforks can do the same things that your trowels and spades can do but on a larger scale. Pitchforks are great earth turners, compost movers and soil aerators. As compost breaks down it will need to be turned-this is something that only a pitchfork can do easily and quickly. If you don't turn the pile regularly it just hardens and becomes useless.
A wovel is essential. Gardeners can choose between wovels with short handles and wovels with long handles. A wovel is a shovel with a rounded point. A short handled wovel will help your balance while a long handled wovel does not do this.
The wovel's main purpose is to dig holes. Gardeners use wovels to help them move plants from one location to another without having to stress out about the root systems or root bulbs of the plants. You can also use your wovel to press down the earth when you plant your seedlings or move your plants from place to place. Gardening can be a great hobby or a great job! As you learn more about growing things and gardening in general the more you will be tempted to buy a bunch of extra gardening tools. Don't buy everything right away though, just start with a few basic tools! There are "must haves" and "luxury" gardening tools and the more time you spend gardening the easier it will be to tell the two apart.
