Bowling Techniques To Improve Your Total Game

One game that just about everyone loves is bowling! The great thing about bowling is that it can be played by young and old alike and regardless of weather conditions. Even if you don't especially like having to rent bowling shoes, once the game gets started almost everybody has fun. For most people, however, the game is even more fun when they play it well and get high scores. What you may not realize is that you can improve your score quite a bit by learning a few simple tips.

One thing you need to learn, especially if you are a new bowler, is how to send your ball down the lane in a straight line. A lot of people will accidently twist the ball a little when they release it, and this is what causes so many balls to curve on their way to the pins and end up in the gutter. Your goal should be to learn how to take any twist out of releasing the ball so it will travel in a straight line. Your left foot should be in the middle of the lane when you let go on the ball to achieve this goal. If you are left handed, you want to make sure that your right foot is in the middle of the lane. Aim to get your ball over the third arrow. You will find the third arrow on the board that is fifteenth from the right. Your shoulder should be right over that fifteenth board when you release the ball. Make sure your throwing arm isn't sending the ball to the right or left.

There is another, often overlooked aspect of bowling: your level of physical fitness. So this is another good reason to stay in shape, especially if you are a frequent bowler. While this is a rather fundamental truth about bowling, many beginners are not aware of it. The obvious fact is that your upper body strength plays a large part in your ability to bowl well. Equally important to your bowling technique is lower body strength. Remember, your overall physical health is very important to bowling, and ignoring it will be detrimental to your game. So if you want to get your bowling scores up, it's a good idea to work out as much as possible in between games.

Keeping your eye on the ball is also true for bowling, however unbelievable it may sound. This does not mean that you should stare at the bowling ball as you play the game. The point is to keep your eyes on your goal, or the pins you want to hit. Keeping your eye on the prize will mean that your arm will naturally send the ball in the same direction as your line of sight. The principle is just like in baseball where if you focus on the ball you have a better chance of hitting it.

You should make a detailed study of how they do everything, from picking up and gripping the ball to how they move. See how they stand, and the posture they assume when releasing the ball. Studying expert bowlers can definitely give your game a boost, and can help you to make improvements in ways you would not have otherwise thought of.
