Setting up Your Very Own Back Garden

Whenever starting your own garden for the very first time, you need to begin small. A perfect beginner plant bed is a space of 25 or 30 square feet which would hold about 30 plants. That scale of plant bed is just right to find out if you have the desire to come to be a gardener while not causing you to burn out due to over work. Once you are aware that gardening is for you, you may make it bigger.

The best place to build the garden is in an area that gets at least six hours of sunlight. Make sure that the garden isn't too close to large trees since they can take nourishing substances away from the plants. It is also best to allow about three feet of space between the garden and buildings or fencing. If you are situated in a hot climate, you will want your plants to have some shade during the hot sun in the afternoon. The garden can certainly still flourish in extreme heat provided that the plants are able to handle the heat. Having good soil is also important for your garden but that may be something that can be improved. It is also advisable to keep clear of locations that are rocky, or steep or where water pools.

Once you arrange and prep your garden, you can start digging into the dirt and start having a good time. Horticulture is a pastime that is not good for those who don't want to get dirty. Before you start planting, you will need to clear away any debris, grass, weeds or rocks. Next, dig up the ground, about a foot deep, level it up, and add minerals or compost, if it is needed. If the soil is simply too acidic, add some lime and if the soil is too sandy, add some peat moss. With a little added fertilizer, your plant life will thrive in neutral to acidic soil. It's important you grasp the directions if you plan to plant seeds for your garden. If you plan to have growing plants instead, make sure that the root base, leaves and stems look healthy.

When implanting, you have to have the smaller sized plants growing in the front while the larger ones are growing in the back. To be successful, you'll want to plant at the perfect time, waiting until the frosts are over with. When utilizing seeds, read the instructions since it will tell you when is the best time to plant. After you seed everything, you need to make sure that you give the correct amount of water. If you haven't got numerous plants, you'll be able to just water with a sprinkler or a bucket of water.

If you do your irrigating in the cooler parts of the day, it can be more effective. Although it can vary by plants, on the whole, plants need about an inch of water each week. During the hot summer months, you will probably find that plants need an inch of water three times a week. Once you have gotten this far, you will be able to watch your plants grow.
