How Many Gardening Tools Do You Actually Need?

As you learn about gardening you will learn about a wide variety of gardening tools that are all supposed to help you save time and create a more fruitful garden. Of course, you don't need to purchase every tool that is on the market. Start small with a collection of basic tools and then let yourself work your way up to the bigger and more impressive tools that are being sold. Your body contains more than enough strength to carry out all of your gardening tasks. You can use your hands to do things like moving earth and your plants from location to location. At the same time, using tools can save you time and keep the wear and tear on your body to a minimum. Here are a few gardening tools that you might find useful.

You need to have a garden rake. A garden rake is different than the kind of rake you are probably thinking of (which is used to gather leaves and larger debris). A garden rake is sturdier and has shorter and stronger teeth that are made from steel. Garden rakes with adjustable widths are better than those with fixed widths because you can adjust the rake to perfectly fit your project. This saves you a lot of money because you will only have to buy the single rake instead of a bunch of different rakes with different widths. You use garden rakes to smooth out and make your garden dirt level.

Kneelers can also be a good idea. You are going to be spending a lot of your gardening time on your knees or crouching down. Garden kneelers can easily be made from big pieces of Styrofoam or similar materials that you can use to lean your knees on. Specialty gardening mats are also available for purchase. Mats and kneelers are used to help ease the wear and tear on your knees that comes from gardening. They can also do a great deal to protect your clothing from the wear and tear that comes from gardening.

Gardeners love hand trowels. Quite a few newbie gardeners only use their hands when they need to move dirt from one place to another. As you get used to working in the garden you will find that you also get used to using the hand trowel. This tool protects your hands. Gardeners use trowels to maneuver the dirt surrounding the plants in the garden (without damaging the plants themselves) and to help speed up the weeding process. Hand trowels are versatile-they come in a bunch of different sizes and can be used on just about any plant in your garden. Most people dream of having their own garden at least one or two times in their lives. When you plant your first garden you will probably want to buy all of the different gardening tools at the local nursery. Each tool will seem like something you have to buy. The best thing you can do as a new gardener is to buy a few simple tools that you know you will use no matter how big your garden will grow. After that you should only buy new tools as they become useful to you. This way you will get the tools you need and save money!
